Mid August we had a family friends baby's first birthday! Ms. Lacey May turned one!
I cast on plain vanilla socks, 64 stitches, US 1.5 needles, 9 inch circulars; my really basic formula. Brought these to the birthday party and made a significant amount of the cuff and leg. I worked on them furiously the whole week, mainly because I hand-dyed the yarn! Yay me! I'm so happy with how the dye job turned out!
I have a yarnie friend, Andrea, who owns an etsy yarn dyeing business, Luna Purl Yarns. She invited me over to come dye experiment, yarn science as she calls it. I was inspired by yarn I was coveting from etsy and took a stab at dyeing a similar colorway. I'm so in love with how the yarn turned out!
I finished them a week to the day. I went on a yarn crawl with some of my knitting group to a few of the local yarn stores. Lucky me, I wasn't the driver. Which means I had plenty of knitting time! I finished up the last toe and kitchenered in the car!
Happy feet for me!
I put these into Grocery Girls second sock summer, pair number 7 or 8 I think. The original base of the yarn is Sweet Georgia that I over dyed. Think this works for the Canada KAL? Let me know!
I'm joining Ginny this week with the yarn along, I just finished reading The Martian by Andy Weir. I really enjoyed a more in-depth view of the story than was in the film, but I also enjoyed the fact that I could pictured the actors in the film as the characters. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is next on my bed-side table.

I absolutely love how your hand-dyed yarn came out! So many fun speckles! I too loved "The Martian," both the book and the movie. It's funny, when I was reading it I pictured Mark Wahlberg as the main character, and they cast Matt Damon, who actually looks somewhat similar! Hope you enjoy the new HP. I thought it was just ok, but hey, it's Harry Potter so it's still exciting!
ReplyDeleteI could see Mark Wahlberg in a space movie so I could see why you saw him. So far I think HP is okay, I went in with the thought that I wasn't going to be like the original books. I'll let you know next week what I think of the book as a whole. I own the illustrated version of the first book and plan to read that right after.
DeleteSo lovely!! Adorable candy-like color! I am not a social knitter, preferring the comfort of my own room, but I agree, once in awhile it's so fun to knit on-the-go!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy with the colors! I had such a fun time picking what colors I wanted to use next.
Deletefor some reason I want cake... anyways, the colors are delightful in those socks! How nice to have a friend in the yarn dyeing business :)
ReplyDeleteIt is so nice having someone I know who dyes yarn! It was so fun experimenting and figuring out what worked and what didn't!
Deleteaw, happy birthday to little Lacey! And your yarn experiment turned out amazing- the socks look fantastic, I love what you dyed!
ReplyDeleteThanks, I think she's wonderful. She still looks like a baby because she hardly have any hair. I'm so happy with this dye experiment, it's a great booster to know that the first attempt came out looking pretty awesome!
DeleteNothing cuter than babies eating/wearing cake :)
ReplyDeleteLove the speckled yarn and socks! The colors are so fun and pretty. I would love to learn how to dye yarn although also kind of afraid to jump down that rabbit hole.
It is definitely a bit of a rabbit hole. My whole family has been jumping in with color ideas and what equipment to use. My mom and I are having a blast trying out the dyeing.
DeleteYou did a terrific job. I want to try solar dyeing as it's still warm in my area even though it's autumn.
ReplyDeleteI live in the NorCal valley and it's supposed to be 101 degrees F on Monday :/ I feel your pain. I really enjoyed it, I think I'll do a bit more tomorrow!
